Beth Appel

Client Care Specialist

Early Years

An eastern shore native, Beth graduated from Severna Park High School. She then graced the locals by choosing to attend Towson University. Her husband, BJ, was pretty happy about that, too. They met through mutual friends while both were TU students. After years living the sunny life in different states -- she in San Diego and he in West Palm Beach -- the two got hitched and decided to move back home to crab town.

What we know about Beth

She performs somersaults for her clients.

Beth started her career as a Gym Director for a gymnastics facility. She then cartwheeled straight into the insurance biz as a customer service rep at KELLY, where she quickly moved up the latter to become a customer service team leader and trainer before having her first child.

Brian Matz

Vice President of Sales

Early Years:

Team work: that what it's all about. Well, we've got your man. A Towson native, Brian graduated from Calvert Hall College, where he was an All-State baseball player. He played varsity basketball, too. Before you could blink, it seemed Brian was all grown-up and attending Clemson University on a baseball scholarship. Before EBS signed him on first-string, he made it all the way to the pros - under contract with the Montreal Expos (now the Washington Nationals). What does seven years in the big leagues earn you? Perseverance, communication skills and leadership qualities. That is, if you're keeping score.

What we know about Brian:

Hitting "Plan B" out of the ballpark.

When shoulder surgery ended the possibility of an MLB career, Brian completed his education at the University of Baltimore, graduating with a Business degree. Next to the plate? A career in insurance - with a goal to someday own his own business. In 2007, he affiliated with the group that is now EBS of Maryland, where it's safe to say that he still delivers a great pitch. But his biggest hit came when he married wife Christian in 2014, and happily settled in Baltimore's Canton neighborhood.

Fun Facts

First man on. I worked for Under Armour during off-season as one of just 20 employees - I helped make them what they are today!

Stand up straight. At Military School elementary school, I was voted "Most Admired Cadet" by classmates and as a 1st grader, named the school newspaper The Cadet Copy.

Pujols, schmujols. I once struck out Major League All-Star Albert Pujols in a spring training game.

Game On. I am a fiercely competitive golfer and bocce ball player.

Megan Mummert

Client Care Specialist

Early Years: One, Big, Happy Family

Born and raised in Maryland, Megan moved to Carroll County when she was just six years old. She was the eldest of two girls, but her family quickly grew after her parents divorced and re-married. Two stepbrothers, three stepsisters and an additional little half-brother later, they became the "Almost Brady Bunch." She played soccer, basketball, and even tried her pom-poms at cheerleading, but ditched them for Karate, which she had started at age 12. She earned her Black Belt at 16.

What We Know: She's a Care Bear

Megan majored in Adolescent Psychology at University Maryland College Park for one semester before transferring to Carroll Community College, where she intended to pursue a nursing degree in Pediatric Oncology. "I kept getting waitlisted, so to get my foot in the medical field, I decided to start at Medix Towson to become a Certified Medical Assistant and Certified Phlebotomist," she explains. She began her clinical career working for a Cardiology/Internal Medicine practice before moving on to Podiatry and Surgery. Luckily for us, her career path changed when she moved to billing and collections for Maxim Healthcare, where she was voted Employee of the Year for 2016. Today, she is a proud EBS-er!

Hope Walker

Client Manager

Early Years:

Light up the Stage!

Growing up in Hampden in northern Baltimore, Hope's stage presence became obvious at a young age. She sang with her church choir, school choirs, and in school musicals. She even took home the $50 grand prize during a middle school talent show! Her courage to perform for large audiences drove her to audition and win acceptance into the All-County and All-State Choirs, and she even performed at Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. No stage fright here!

What we know about Hope:

Hiking her way to EBS

In the summer, we most often find Hope with her Chocolate Lab fur-baby, Kona, playing at the dog park, hiking mountain trails, or swimming at the beach. Hope says, "I am a summer girl, so you'll find me outside in the warm sun, any chance I get." She certainly loves to enjoy the outdoors, but now that she has hiked her way to EBS, Hope's a ray of sunshine for our team as well!

Fun Facts

Hitting it outta the park: I performed at Oriole Park while singing the National Anthem with the Perry Hall High School Chamber Choir.

This one time, at band camp? I was the Pom Captain for my high school marching band's pom squad, and during practice I was attacked by wild geese.

Rap it out: I can rap every word to Sir Mix-A-Lot's "Baby Got Back."

The Mad Food Scientist: I will eat soup and crabs all year round - soup even in 100-degree weather, and crabs for Christmas. I also like odd food mixtures such as burnt popcorn and ketchup. (No judgement until you try it!)
